The Office of Policy and International Affairs' role is to deliver unbiased advice to the Department of Energy's leadership on existing and prospective energy-related policies, based on integrated and well-founded data and analysis. The Office of Policy and International Affairs has primary responsibility for the Department of Energy's international energy activities including international emergency management, national security, and international cooperation in science and technology.
The Office of Economic Analysis provides analysis of energy-related policies and initiatives related to the development and use of traditional and alternative generation technologies, electric power transmission systems, and electric power distribution systems including electricity pricing, regulation, and demand response programs. The Office provides analysis of and recommendations on policies that affect the reliability, economic, technical, environmental, regulatory, and institutional factors associated with energy technologies and systems. The Office provides analysis and develops options with respect to significant environmental issues that affect energy demand, supply, and price, with a particular emphasis on policies related to climate change and criteria pollutants. The Office coordinates economic policy analysis within the Department and across the relevant Federal agencies, develops legislative and regulatory proposals, and provides long-term economic analysis of energy markets. The Office provides modeling analyses, economic analyses and policy recommendations on issues associated with domestic and international energy markets. One topic of particular focus for this position is critical materials in clean energy.
The incumbent conducts economic studies and/or policy analysis projects on energy and environmental issues, including the development and use of traditional and alternative generation technologies. Assist in the development of policy and technology scenarios, including impacts on world energy markets, demand for critical materials, greenhouse gas emissions, energy costs, energy security and other factors. This includes in-depth research and analysis, and requires coordination with other analysts within DOE and other Federal agencies and international organizations such as the International Energy Agency.
