WHAT DOES AN INTERNAL REVENUE AGENT (COMPUTER AUDIT SPECIALIST) DO?
Computer Audit Specialists comprise a specialized type of Internal Revenue Agents. As a Computer Audit Specialist, you will specialize in using your systems knowledge to access information necessary to resolve tax issues. You will serve as an expert in data processing systems with special responsibilities to act as technical advisor and information specialist concerning automated accounting and other electronic record keeping systems. In this role, you will be involved in examinations of the largest corporations, high asset entities, partnerships, or fiduciaries. These organizations often have extensive subsidiaries, diversified activities, multiple partners, and have national or international scope. You will resolve critical and unusual problems for a range of complex examination issues, often using some of the latest technologies and information systems. You will work closely with your customers, often dealing with the senior levels of corporate tax department and/or their representatives. WHAT IS THE LARGE BUSINESS AND INTERNATIONAL (LB&I) DIVISION?
The Large Business and International (LB&I) business unit provides service and enforcement activities to support tax compliance of businesses and related entities with assets of $10 million or more, as well as small U.S. businesses engaged in international, U.S. citizens abroad, and foreign persons and businesses with a U.S. tax requirement. As our name suggests, international tax administration is an important part of what we do in LB&I. As part of the LB&I team, you may be assigned to work in International, or with one of six industry segments: Communications Technology and Media, Financial Services, Global High Wealth, Heavy Manufacturing and Transportation, Natural Resources and Construction, or Retailers, Food, Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare. Regardless of where you serve, you will be supported by a variety of specialists (economists, engineers, field specialists and technical advisors) as you tackle the most complex foreign and domestic tax issues.
