JOB SUMMARY:

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA medical centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinincs in Dothan, Alabama and Columbus Georgia. The primary duty station for this position is at the Tuskegee Campus. The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.

The physician position is the Medical Director in New Horizon Community Living Center (NHCLC), which encompasses oversight of all NHCLC activity in collaboration with the ACOS/GEC&R and the ACN/GEC. The incumbent also serves as the physician for the Spinal Cord Injury Outpatient Clinic. The NHCLC physician director is accountable and responsible for all health care delivery to veterans in the CAVHCS NHCLC s well s Spinal Cord injury veterans. The care and safety of our veterans is monitored daily, and the NHCLC physician would be expected to:

  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner and Nursing staff working within the NHCLC.
  • Assist ACOS in leadership by updating and maintaining NHCLC policies procedures.
  • Coordinate the efficient operations and function of the Program associated with the NHCLC.
  • Maintain and submit in a timely manner documentation, productivity reports, and NHCLC required reports related to provider operations.
  • Understand and adhere to policies and procedures for NHCLC and SCI Programs.
  • Participate in QI development and regular monitoring of performance improve activities and important aspects of care.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable JCAHO, Medicare and VA standards within the NHCLC and SCI Programs.
  • Ensure proper supply levels are maintained for patient treatment.
  • Participate in staff meetings associated with and for the purpose of NHCLC operations.
