The Marion, Illinois VA Medical Center is seeking two full-time Registered Nurses to join the Nursing Service as a Nursing Officer of the Day. 

 

The Nurse Officer of the Day (NOD) is a supervisory position which is accountable to the NOD Supervisor or designee and provides coordination of all patient care during non-administrative hours, as well as primary functions during administrative hours of bed control, patient flow coordination.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to implementation and compliance with administrative and clinical policies and procedures, access to support services, execution of emergency and disaster procedures, assuring appropriate follow up and management of patient issues, care, or personnel issues, approving leave and managing call-ins and staffing assignments, assuring appropriate provision of nursing care, providing input into the evaluation of Patient Care Services staff, providing critical analysis of patient care issues including patient flow coordination throughout the organization to assure appropriate and timely decisions which impact access, safety and quality.  The Nurse Officer of the Day assures that patient care needs are provided in a safe environment, and in a timely manner.  The NOD is a resource person and consultant for all nursing clinical/administrative issues during non-administrative hours and acts on behalf of the ADPCS to manage the full scope of nursing services. These individuals directly supervise selected other staff which provides additional oversight and flexibility within the service for appropriate use of resources and effective processes.

 

Tour of Duty: Various and Rotating
