The VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (VAGCVHCS) is a multi-divisional health care system based in Biloxi, Mississippi spanning the Gulf Coast to include the following Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Mobile, AL, Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, and Panama City, Florida.  Acute inpatient medical and surgical care, primary, specialty outpatient care, long-term care, blind rehabilitation, as well as inpatient and outpatient mental health services are provided at the Biloxi campus.  Over 200,000 veterans reside in our service area.  The VAGCVHCS has affiliation agreements with three medical schools and numerous associated health programs.  We support resident training in cardiology, dermatology, general surgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, radiology, and dental programs, as well as a general thoracic fellowship.  The residents rotate from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana State University in New Orleans, and Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.

 

The Mississippi Gulf Coast overlooks the sparkling Gulf of Mexico and 62 miles of scenic shoreline including the world's longest (26 miles) man-made beach - started by nature, improved by man. This position is located at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Biloxi, Mississippi. This setting for the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System spans south Mississippi, south Alabama and the Florida panhandle. The position is ideal for those who those enjoy working on integrative, multidisciplinary teams, utilizing evidence based therapies within a recovery oriented approach. The position will encompass a significant amount of integrative treatment, and the position requires a person who is well versed in a variety of evidence-based therapies or one who is seeking further experience with these approaches. Funding is available for learning new therapies and attending conferences.

 

This opening provides the incumbent psychologist with discretion in building their own caseloads and clinics, participating in psychology Master's, pre- doctoral, post-doctoral training programs, and research. Psychologists are full members of the medical staff.

 

Responsibilities include development of short and long range goals and plans for the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit. In addition, the incumbent will ensure the development and implement policies and procedures to ensure that the high risk needs and goals for Veterans are met in a timely manner. Furthermore, administrative and programmatic resource management will include meeting Joint Commission standards, discharge and treatment planning, and monitoring outcomes using a data-driven quality assurance process as well as the implementation of an evidenced based recovery model.

 

The incumbents decisions affect interdisciplinary staff and other resources associated with the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit. H/she will manage and exercise very wide latitude and independent judgment to govern the continuity of care for our Veterans. The Inpatient Psychiatry Unit carries substantial program components that deliver specialized, complex, and highly professional services that significantly impact the health care provided to Veterans.

 

The Supervisory Psychologist Program Manager has full responsibility for oversight of the professional practice of psychology, psychiatry, social work and nursing on the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.
