Become a part of our mission to maintain and strengthen the vitality of the US science and engineering enterprise. For over 60 years, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has remained the premier Federal agency supporting basic research at the frontiers of discovery across all fields, as well as science and engineering education at all levels.
The National Science Foundation is seeking qualified candidate for a Physical Scientist (Program Director) position in the Instrumentation and Facilities Program, within the Division of Earth Sciences, Directorate for Geosciences, Arlington, VA.
NSF Program Directors bear the primary responsibility for carrying out the agency's overall mission to support innovative and merit-reviewed activities in basic research and education that contribute to the nation's technical strength, security, and welfare. To fulfill this responsibility requires not only knowledge in the appropriate disciplines, but also a commitment to high standards, a considerable breadth of interest and receptivity to new ideas, a strong sense of fairness, good judgment, and a high degree of personal integrity.
The Instrumentation and Facilities Program (IF) in the Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) supports meritorious requests for infrastructure that promotes innovative research and education in the diverse areas supported by the Division. EAR/IF considers proposals in the following categories: Acquisition or Upgrade of Research Equipment; Development of New Instrumentation, Analytical Techniques or Software; Support of National or Regional Multi-User Facilities, and Support for Early-Career Investigator Research Infrastructure. Program Officers evaluate proposals by means of mail and panel review. They also increase their breadth of knowledge through professional meetings and other interactions with the EAR scientific community.
