Under close supervision, completes a variety of entry-level clerical duties in support of an accounting function. Incumbent typically receives, sorts, and prepares accounting information for input into the accounting system or for use by other departments, suppliers, and/or clients. For this particular position, these duties will be performed within the Equipment Department to meet the accounting and clerical requirements associated with equipment operations of Houston Rapid Transit JV in its capacity as the prime contractor for the design-build services on the Houston Light Rail Expansion project of METRO. Receives accounting information from internal or external sources, including other sections of the Business Group, other departments, JV partner companies, suppliers, clients, etc. Sorts and compares information by supplier, client, account number, and/or cost center. Processes financial records and assists in preparing equipment accruals and performing account coding and vouchering of incoming equipment-related invoices. Prepares various equipment reports, including the Fuel Report, Fuel Card Log, Equipment Rental Log, and the Truck Log. Prepares Fuel Invoices for the Equipment Department. Inputs data into a computerized accounting system and/or data base management application system. Assists in preparing reports used by other departments such as Accounts Payable and Project Controls. Completes simple reconciliations and/or proofs. Answers routine inquiries and prepares standard analysis. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Duties
Qualifications:
High school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as some training and/or experience in clerical functions within an accounting unit, including basic data entry.
Prior experience as an equipment clerk for a construction company is a plus.
Basic PC skills including, but not limited to, MS Windows, MS Word, and MS Excel.
Must have good communications skills, be able to work as part of a team, and be able to follow instructions accurately.
