Accounting Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:
Key Functions

1. Assists with reconciliation of grant/research accounts.

Assists with the monthly reconciliation of all grant and research accounts for the department.
Prints monthly SOCC ledger reports and gathers all supporting documentation.
Reviews each account and collects supporting documentation for all transactions.
Works with Grant Program Manager to correct any errors in expenses charged to departmental accounts.
Produces financial reports to be used in monthly review of each faculty member's accounts.



2. Assists in processing purchase requisitions.

Assists in composing and submitting purchase requisitions for grant-related purchases.
Follows through to track issuance of purchase order numbers and payment of invoices.



3. Assists with coordinating grant-related travel.

Assists in booking flights, securing hotel accommodations, compiling travel folders and processing reimbursements.
Maintains familiarity with institutional and sponsor travel guidelines.
Assists with processing travel expense reimbursements upon travel completion.



4. Management of day-to-day grant team operations.

Prepares meeting agendas. Takes and distributes detailed and accurate meeting minutes, as assigned.
Assists in maintaining a detailed, up-to-date file and list of grant publications.
Acts as an information resource to investigators and staff.



Job Description-Requirements
Education

Required: High school certificate or equivalent.

Preferred: Some college, to include accounting experience.



License/Certification

Required: None

Preferred: Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Associate (CCRA).



Experience
Required: Three years experience in accounting related activities.

Preferred: Two years of extensive administrative experience with MDACC accounting experience.
