The Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (BVAMC) is an integral part of the Medical community that provides acute, tertiary, medical, and surgical care to Veterans of Alabama. The Medical Center provides care to a veteran population of 420,000 in Alabama and treats 62,000 unique Veterans annually. The medical center serves as a referral center for this area with 139 operating beds with care provided in almost all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties, outpatient facilities also include 9 community based outpatient clinics. The Birmingham VA Medical Center has been designated as a Renal Transplant and Stoke Center, it has also been designated as a Patient Centered Care Center of Innovation.
