About the Position:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) is the world’s largest public engineering organization and it has a firm commitment to preserving and enhancing our natural environment. This position is with the United States Army Corps Engineers, Mobile District, Millers Ferry Power Project, located near Camden, AL.  The duty station is 30 miles from Thomasville, Al, 45 miles from Selma, Al, and 80 miles from Montgomery, Al.  The area features a number of recreational activities for all including fishing, boating and camping. Essential medical and retail facilities are within 10 miles of the duty station. Larger cities are within 45 minutes of the project. Selma boasts the state's largest contiguous historic district, with over 1,250 structures. If you looking to for a little spark of big city life Montgomery the state capital is only 90 minutes away from the duty station with cultural, sporting, educational and social events. So if you are interested in a quaint small town life not far from the city, this position can put you in those surroundings.

Millers Ferry Power Project is organizationally under the Operations Project Management Office located in Tuscaloosa, AL.  The facility is part of the Millers Ferry/Jones Bluff Power Projects with 90,000 kilowatts of available hydropower capacity from three generators.  Together with the hydropower facility at Jones Bluff, 30 employees work together to provide clean reliable power to the rural customers of the southeast. The workforce is essentially divided equally between the two facilities with powerplant operators, electricians, mechanics, maintenance technicians, administrative staff and managers.  Through the support of this team, the facilities are consistently at the top of the list for most reliable hydropower plants in the southeast.

Who May Apply:

  • All Federal employees with completive status serving  on a career or career-conditonal appointment. ( NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50 demonstrating a tenure code of "1" or "2" in block 24 that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package to support your eligibility for Status consideration).
  • Veteran Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) - Preference eligibles who have been separated under honorable conditions after 3 years or more of continuous service will receive consideration under the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA). (NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your DD Form 214 and proof of any preference eligibility along with your application/resume package).
  • Veteran Recruitment Appointment  (VRA)- Disabled veteran; or a veteran who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during a war declared by Congress, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized; or a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the Armed Forces, participated in a military operation for which the Armed Forces Service Medal was awarded; or I have separated from active duty within the past 3 years under honorable conditions. Must have been separated under honorable conditions (i.e., the individual must have received either an honorable or general discharge). ( NOTE: You MUST submit a  SF-15, Letter from the VA copy of member 4 DD Form 214 documenting final military discharge, release or retirement and proof of any preference eligibility as part of your application package.)
  • Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) Eligible - To be eligible for ICTAP consideration, you must be a current or former Federal employee displaced or scheduled to be displaced from a Non-DoD Federal agency (E"G. IRS, VA, Dept of Labor, ect.), through no fault of your own, from a permanent competitive service position in the same local commuting area of this vacancy. ( NOTE; you Must submit a copy of the appropriate documentation such as a reduction-in-force (RIF) separation notice, a SF-50 reflection your RIF separation, or a notice of proposed removal for declining a directed reassignment or transfer of function to another commuting area. Also, you must submit documentation to reflect your current (or last) performance rating of record along with your application/resume package.)

 

Legible copies of your documents are required if they are being used to meet the qualifications requirements.

 

DD-214 - If you are claiming Veterans' Preference or eligible Veterans' Service, provide a copy of your DD-214 (Member Copy 4), Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, or other appropriate documentation to prove your entitlement and to provide verification of an Honorable Discharge.

 

SF-15 and VA Letter - If you are claiming Veterans' Preference based upon a Compensable Disability, Widow or Spouse Entitlement, or as a Purple Heart recipient, you must submit your DD-214 or other proof of entitlement; an SF-15, and the required proof of disability, i.e., Department of Veterans Affairs letter dated 1991 or later


KEY REQUIREMENTS:
  • TDY of up to 5% may be required
