JOB SUMMARY:

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA medical centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinincs in Dothan, Alabama and Columbus Georgia. The primary duty station for this position is at the Tuskegee Campus. The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.

Central Alabama Veteran Health Care System (CAVHCS) is seeking a BC or BE Physiatrist with interest in Neurorehabilitation, specifically, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), SCI, and stroke. There also will be involvement with inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient-musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

 

Duties include:

 

  • The diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with Traumatic Brain Injuries, preparing reports and survey preparation.
  • The incumbent will serve as the TBI Coordinator physiatrist under the supervision of the Chief, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
  • Participating in patient care in the musculoskeletal clinic.
  • Participating in rehabilitation consultation, and for operating and supervising clinical specialties engaged in evaluating patients for rehabilitation needs, i.e., traumatic injuries, TBI, amputees, stroke, neurological disorders, cognitive disorders, etc.
  • Assuring that quality examinations are provided upon consultation and that VHA performance measures are met.
  • The physiatrist will act as both a consultant and provide medical supervision to staff therapists.
  • The physiatrist may also provide assistance to the Compensation and Pension program when occurrences of needing a physiatrist option may come up.
  • The Physiatrist will act as a rehabilitation consultant to other clinical staff, including nursing home. The  incumbent will also support the remaining Rehabilitation service in care delivery to ensure achievement of the clinical, education goals and applicable performance measures.
  • The incumbent reports to the Chief, PM&R.

 

CAVHCS Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service includes 10 bed CARF accredited inpatient rehab program (CIIRP), Outpatient Rehab clinics, the disciplines of Audiology, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, and special programs such as, Pain Clinic, Amputee clinic, Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury clinic.
