If you are appointed at a grade lower than the full performance level (GS-07), you may be promoted to the full performance level without competing again once all regulatory requirements are met; however, promotion is neither automatic nor guaranteed. This position is established on a BLM unit to serve as a first line supervisor on a Fire Engine Module (Type VI engine). This position supervises engine crews comprised of at least two individuals, providing staffing seven days per week throughout the fire season. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to- day operation of a fire engine module, performing initial and extended attack fire suppression and fuels reduction. The duties may involve assisting in the development and execution of burn plans. The incumbent is responsible for work directly related to fire control activities including: suppression, preparedness, prevention, prescribed burning, monitoring, and hazardous fuel reduction.
