About the position:  The Klamath Basin Inventory and Monitoring Network (I&M) is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as a GS-0404-07 Biological Science Technician.  This position is a full-time, temporary appointment.  FEW positions are available.  Government housing is NOT available.  Duty station of this position will be Ashland, OR with frequent travel to Lava Beds National Monument and Redwood National and State Parks in Northern California.

Area Information: 

Lava Beds and the Tule Lake Unit of the WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monuments are located in northeastern California.  Nearby communities are Klamath Falls, OR (50 miles) and Tulelake, CA (25 miles).  Schools, churches, grocery stores, fuel and lodging can be found in both communities.  Lava Beds highlights the dynamic history of the Modoc Indian War of 1872 and features a spectacular rugged landscape punctuated by stunning cinder and spatter cones, lava flows, lava tube caves and pit craters, favorite destinations for visitors to explore.  The Tule Lake Unit tells the intriguing civil rights story of the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII, at 3 separate units within the monument.  Shared government housing may be available.  Employees should be ready for all weather conditions throughout the year.  Visit our websites at www.nps.gov/labe and www.nps.gov/tule for more information.

Redwood National and State Parks span the Northern California coastline from Crescent City to Orick, California.  This area is home to some of the world's tallest trees: old-growth coast redwoods. They can live to be 2000 years old and grow to over 300 feet tall. Spruce, hemlock, Douglas-fir, berry bushes, and sword ferns create a multiple canopied understory that towers over all visitors. The parks' mosaic of habitats include prairie/oak woodlands, mighty rivers and streams, and 37 miles of pristine, breathtaking Pacific coastline. Cultural landscapes reflect American Indian history. The more recent logging history has led to much restoration of these parks.
