DESCRIPTION Humboldt State Universitys College of
Professional Studies invites applications for two full-time tenure-
track or multi-year lecturer faculty positions in Social Work for
the BASW and MSW programs.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS For the tenure-track positions,
a Doctorate in social work or related field from an accredited
college or university or JD with practice experience in Federal
Indian Law is required at time of appointment. Applicants with
progress towards doctorate degree completion by appointment
date will be considered.
For the multi-year lecturer positions, a record of teaching
excellence at the college level is required.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following
MSW with two years post-MSW experience or BASW with five
years post-BASW experience
Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and/or other
communities of color
Potential for or evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarship
and/or creative activities, and service to the community and the
profession
Willingness to teach classes on campus and online, using
synchronous and asynchronous methods
Record of and/or interest in teaching a broad range of courses
using a variety of methodologies and
Commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a
learning environment that is supportive of individuals from
diverse backgrounds.
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES The successful candidate will be
prepared to teach social work coursework consistent with the
Departments purpose and values
http/www.humboldt.edu/socialwork. Teaching responsibilities
will be in both graduate and undergraduate courses in both face
to face and online environments.
We hope to attract a candidate that has an expressed interest in
teaching, research, and community service relevant to
Indigenous Peoples. Significant components of our
Departments purpose are to establish meaningful partnerships
with rural communities and Native American tribes, continue to
improve the BASW/MSW curriculum in this regard, and educate
social workers to be prepared to work in tribal and rural
contexts.
The primary professional responsibilities of faculty members are
teaching, research, scholarship or creative activity, and service to
the University, profession and to the community. Dedication to
excellence in teaching is a long-standing tradition at Humboldt
State University and is the primary criterion in promotion and
tenure considerations. Responsibilities may include 3 units of
normal ancillary/collateral duties including student advising,
faculty governance, university and college committee work, and
community relations and teaching an average of 12 units in
lower and upper division undergraduate courses, foundation and
advanced year graduate courses. Additional professional
responsibilities include maintaining office hours, working
collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and
participation in other academic functions. Non-tenured
assistant level professors are generally granted course release in
their first year of appointment and provided ongoing mentorship
to be a successful member of the faculty. Probationary faculty
are also eligible for grants from the university to support
research, scholarship and other forms of creative activity.
