Departmental Overview
The UC Berkeley Retirement Center is dedicated to developing
programs and services that contribute to the well being and
creativity of retired faculty, staff and their families and that
support the UC community.  The Retirement Center serves
retired faculty, staff, and surviving spouse beneficiaries from UC
Berkeley, UC Office of the President, and Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory.
With a growing retiree population, now numbering over 11,000,
the Retirement Center will expand its current retiree educational
programs with a focus on transforming retirement for the
campus emeriti and retiree base. The Program Specialist payroll
title - Public Education Specialist 2  reports to the Director and
will assume responsibility for select program activity and assist
in developing new programs. This is a one year contract position
at 75% time.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, organizes and conducts existing
retiree public educational courses and assists in the development
of new programs and course materials. Under the direction of
the Director  Develop and evaluate the Pre-Retirement Planning
Program PRP. Develop, implement, and analyze a new post-
retirement education program Transforming Retirement for
existing retirees. Develop, operate and evaluate new website
resources that help existing faculty and staff with their
transition to retirement enable recent retirees initial adjustment
to retirement and assist seasoned retirees management of
continuing retirement.
Assists in developing strategic market plans and targets
audience. Under direction of Director, assisted by the Program
Analyst, develop and evaluate content and production of Center
newsletter and electronic publications, and develop, as
appropriate, other communication tools, e.g., Facebook. Based
upon Director and University Relations consultation, develop,
test and implement promotional materials for the Center, e.g.,
brochures, flyers, pamphlets, and bookmarks, with consistent
theme and appearance for the Center and the University.
Develop, implement and assess an awareness building campaign
to heighten Center presence on campus, connections, use of
Center services, and increased access and engagement of
retirees in campus life. Assist the Director and Program Analyst
with the development and implementation of fundraising
strategies to expand financial support for the Center.
Utilizes evaluation tools for courses, instructors and programs to
evaluate and adjust course curriculum or presentation. Lead on
implementation and evaluation for the Director and Program
Analyst of current programs, including  CRCN, LIR, Retiree
Caregiver support and educational initiative in collaboration with
the TANG Center. Evaluate and recommend improvements in the
Centers retiree resource reference library.  Research outreach
opportunities which will become resources for retirees.
Assists in conducting analysis, prioritizing work assignments and
developing program recommendations. Oversee and recommend
adjustments to daily operations to support activity of Director,
Program Analyst and work study students.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of departmental and campus policies
and procedures knowledge of educational program content and
objectives. Knowledge of programs in Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of delivering public educational
programs.
Working knowledge of current public education programs
and trends.
Working skills to produce and deliver programs.
Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.
Good analytical skills to understand how business needs
can be addressed through the design and delivery of training
programs.
