Departmental Overview
The College operates as three distinct functional units the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the College itself. The College operation is diverse and complex, and includes the Deans Office, Business and Administrative Services, Information Technology, Undergraduate Affairs, College Relations, Engineering Facilities, Shops, Building Management, Analytical Facilities, EHS, and Reuse Facilities. All of these operations support the departments research, teaching, and academic programs. The College of Chemistrys population is composed of active ladder-ranked and emeriti faculty career and casual staff, non-Senate academic, teaching staff graduate students and postdoctoral/visiting scholars
This position manages and supports nine large chemistry service courses for the Department of Chemistry. Operationally supports 7 ladder-ranked faculty and 2-3 laboratory lecturers each semester. Supervises and manages the course administrative work of Graduate Student Instructors each semester.
Responsibilities
Coordinates and manages the introductory chemistry academic courses for approximately 3000 students each semester.
Provides logistical and administrative instruction/supervision to GSIs and UGSIs including orientation of first-time GSIs, laboratory section assignments and scheduling, grading procedures and databases, time management, and problem solving.
Manages grade books, including integrating grade books from different on-line applications. Performs analysis of grades and develops methods to automatically deliver relevant information to instructors, GSIs, and students.
Manages Instructional Support unit administrative facilities and non-laboratory space for general chemistry and organic chemistry classes.
Helps students in critical transition stages from high school to first year Research University undergraduate course work, with first semester issues for students, and with absences due to illness, family emergencies, or conflicting activities, student conduct cases.
Assesses the appropriate needs of students and may refer students to specific student programs such as the disabled student program, financial aid, college/departmental advisors.
Maintains partnerships with campus departments and units.
Generates timely financial reports for the introductory courses, purchases supplies for administrating general and organic chemistry courses, and assists in designing, developing, and maintaining course websites
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of University processes, protocols, and procedures for budget, account and fund management, and personnel management.
Understanding of University rules and regulations, and academic requirements for students
Demonstrated ability to readily learn new skills related to on-line course technology
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Familiarity with University computer applications systemsTeleBears/OLADS, BearFacts, bSpace, BFS, and BAIRS.
Skills in judgment and independent decision-making
Oral and written communication skills interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.
Problem solving and organizational skills.
Multicultural competencies, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Knowledge of program development, data gathering, assessment, and evaluation skills.

This is a fully benefited, career position with a hiring annual salary range of $42,000-$62,300
