Under the direction of a Principal, perform technical library functions in an assigned secondary school library organize, distribute and store library and audio-visual materials. Work with students in researching library materials. Check books and materials in and out at the circulation desk. Process and shelve library materials. Assist students and staff in the selection and requisitioning of library materials.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS.
The Library/Media Technician II classification is assigned to a secondary school site. Incumbents typically oversee a larger facility, a more extensive collection and provide specialized research assistance to staff and students. Incumbents in the Library/Media Technician II classification train and provide work direction and guidance to work study assistants, student assistants and clerical support staff. The Library/Media Technician I classification is assigned to elementary schools. Incumbents work independently in the library and perform a variety of clerical and technical library functions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES.
Perform a variety of clerical and technical library functions involved with the selection, acquisition, circulation, maintenance and distribution of library books and audio-visual materials.
Coordinate circulation of library materials. Check library materials in and out to students and staff. Shelve returned books and materials. Reserve books for students and staff. Maintain record of overdue materials and send overdue notices to students and teachers.
Provide general and reference assistance to students and teachers. Instruct and aid students in the use of various library equipment. Assist students in finding suitable reading materials. Assist students in the use of computer indexes. answer reference and directional questions.
Assist students in locating and selecting desired or needed materials from book shelves or with the use of the card catalog or computerized catalog system. Maintain the computerized and conventional card catalog. Conduct student and staff library orientations as appropriate.
Assist individuals and groups of students in the use of reference sources assist students, teachers, staff and others in researching materials for classroom use. Operate computerized reference resources to assist students and teachers with research. Maintain reading room for staff use.
Perform general clerical work such as typing, duplicating, entering information into a computer and maintaining various files and records. Compile, prepare and type correspondence, lists, reports, records and a variety of other materials including a library calendar and appointment schedule. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES.

Audio-visual equipment and modern media materials.
District curriculum, reading levels and appropriate reference materials.
Filing, indexing and inventory procedure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of library
experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS.
Some positions in this classification may be required to speak, read or write in a designated
second language.
