He or she must:* Balance competing priorities from the different "channels" (described below) that comprise Traffic.* Provide hands-on scientific guidance and mentoring to team members.* Ship in a production environment in collaboration with engineering focused teams.* Collaborate with other applied research teams throughout eBay.The "channels" for which the team is responsible include:* Search advertising on Google, Bing, and Yahoo: eBay is one of the world's largest search advertisers, with millions of unique keywords, with continually updated bids. The Traffic team works on closed-loop optimization to ensure the bids for these keywords are set appropriately, based on conversion data and a variety of other features.* Google Product Search: the Traffic team works on information extraction and automated quality filters, to ensure we meet all the necessary requirements, which are often different from eBay's own marketplace requirements.* Email: the Traffic team is responsible for optimizing all of the email eBay sends. This newly centralized effort will drive more visits and more sales, by modernizing and optimizing the whole range of emails.* Online comparison shopping sites (OCS), including Shopping.com and others. The Traffic team has devleoped closed-loop optimization that ensures the amount paid to these OCS sites makes economic sense for eBay.* The eBay Partner Network (EPN) -- https://www.ebaypartnernetwork.com -- our affiliate program: the applied science challenges in this channel include pricing (eBay's unique "quality click pricing" model) and ensuring network quality.* In display/graphical advertising, eBay is also one of the world's largest advertisers.
