<tr><td valign="top" width="450"><b>EHS SpecialistPosition ObjectiveThe incumbent will implement designed Life Technologies’ environmental, health, safety and sustainability programs at the Carlsbad, California site. This position supports the global EHS strategy through a program that seeks to:Proactively manage EHS & Sustainability in order to comply with all applicable regulations and Life Technologies’ standards, to achieve a safe work environment and minimize the impact to the environment.Essential Functions·Implement and maintain EHS and Sustainability programs and processes that are safe, environmentally sensitive and meet regulatory compliance requirements.·Implement Life Technologies’ global EHS management system including local regulatory requirments applicable to the site.·Interface with regulatory agencies on EHS matters.·Co-Lead EHS Sustainability initiatives at the site, and engage employees to get involved in projects resulting in less waste, using less energy and water.·Support a culture where employees at all levels take ownership for safety.Engage employees in safety initiatives to eliminate or control safety hazards and reduce risk of an injury or chemical release.·Engage site safety committees, emergency response team, and waste minimization/sustainability committees that are established and ensure effectiveness.·Manage programs within established EHS budget.·May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.Site responsibilities include, but not limited to:* Develop, implement and deliver effective training programs* Provide technical and regulatory EHS guidance for chemical handling, biosafety, hazardous and biohazardous waste, lasers and facilities maintenance programs* Assist with Job Hazard Analysis assessments. Execute established implementation plan.Monitor closure of action items.* Assist with the site Emergency Plan and Emergency Response Team. Provide or make arrangements for First Aid, CPR/AED and HAZWOPER training* Provide effective Incident Response and follow up and seek assistance from EHS Manager as needed* Conduct Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis. Ensure injury and illness cases are effectively managed to closure.* Track and analyze site monthly Environmental Health and Safety metrics* Implement a comprehensive EHS inspection program and track corrective action items to completion* Participate in EHS audits as appropriateEducation:Bachelors degree in safety, environmental management, and/or sustainability engineering discipline. Masters degree in engineering or science a plus.Or equivilant experience would be acceptable.Must have thorough knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA.Professional certification: CSP, CIH, LEED AP, or other certifications a plus.Experience/Requirements:Requires a minimum of M.S. and 3-5 years of experience or B.S. and 5-7 years of experience.in an environmental, health, safety, and sustainability related discipline and technical/practical knowledge of EHS+S regulations, codes, and guidelines. Experience in OSHA’s VPP program is strongly preferred.Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies.Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required.Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology, research and development and/or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required.Desired Profile:·Ability to influence others without authority.·Results oriented·Excellent written and oral communications skills·Anticipates needs and problems while creating solutions.·Is curious, inquisitive, innovative, never satisfied with the status quo.&mid
