Use applicable TMDE in conjunction with technical manuals to determine serviceability of equipment. Read, understand, and apply information in unit maintenance technical manuals.* Conduct leak tests with halide and electronic testers. Isolate and diagnose malfunctions and determine extent of repair and replacement parts required. Inspect equipment supported, determine category of maintenance, extent of repairs, and record results.* Classify unserviceable equipment and components for disposition. Determine overall condition of mechanical or electrical malfunctions and actual cost of repair parts needed. Analyze operation and equipment system fundamentals.* Adjust equipment and repair major components by complete disassembly, determination of serviceability, replacement of defective parts, and reassembly. Purge and recharge mechanical refrigeration systems. Use hand and power-operated tools. Obtain replacement parts, and turn in unserviceable parts adhering to authorized policies and required procedures.* Install heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, gasoline engines, and electrical components peculiar to equipment being supported. Maintain bottle cleaning and charging station.* Assist the equipment records and repair parts technician in the following tasks related to HVAC equipment. Perform ASL/PLL duties in manual and automated supply activity (SSA) applications. Review documentation and propose additions, deletions, or changes to established ASL/PLL. Identify repair parts and prepare requests for issue or turn-in. Receive, store, issue, and maintain current inventory of authorized repair parts including hazardous material. Use status cards and reconciliation listing provided by SSA to upgrade due-in records.* Prepare requests for modifications, cancellations, or follow-ups of open requests to SSA. Prepare requests for direct exchange of repair parts. Initiate, receive, and maintain manual and automated maintenance control records, as required. Prepare and maintain record on equipment usage, history, maintenance, modification, and calibration. Record equipment readiness codes and maintenance data required for automated data processing application. Provide input for materiel readiness reports.* Conduct risk assessments and risk mitigation. Ensure all safety and environmental requirements and considerations are implemented prior to the start of training or work.* Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead, Non-Medical Maintenance Section.* Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.* Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.* Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.* Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.* Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.* Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.* Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit.* Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
