Test lead acid batteries for serviceability.* Prepare vehicles and equipment for operation under abnormal conditions by sealing, waterproofing, and servicing with special fuels, coolants, and lubricants.* Perform unit maintenance on malfunctions of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic brake systems or components.* Perform preventive maintenance on tools, repair parts, equipment, and assigned vehicles. Adjust operating mechanisms.* Tune engines and replace repair parts and components as outlined in the appropriate maintenance allocation charts for vehicles and heavy equipment assigned to the site.* Test and operate vehicles and equipment as required and observe for evidence of abnormal operation. Operate wheeled vehicles in conjunction with maintenance recovery operations.* Employ applicable TMDE in conjunction with technical publications to troubleshoot and test continuity of electrical circuits. Interpret schematic diagrams. Determine extent of correct adjustment and repair procedures required. Read, understand, and apply information contained in unit maintenance technical manuals and common schematic diagrams. Know and apply required safety procedures.* Use hand tools and carry tool boxes. Determine proper tools and equipment to be used to perform a maintenance task. Use power-operated tools and equipment. Obtain replacement parts from maintenance parts supply section. Turn in unserviceable repair parts to the maintenance parts supply section while adhering to authorized policies and required procedures.* Perform vehicle recovery and evacuation operations for vehicles weighing more than 5 tons, for all material handling equipment (MHE), and for specialized non-medical equipment such as dolly sets. Know and apply recovery operation safety procedures.* Perform basic oxyacetylene welding operations.* Perform and assist in the performance of operator maintenance on heavy equipment, MHE, and specialized non-medical equipment such as dolly sets.* Align and adjust assemblies and components to ensure that equipment is functioning within prescribed limits and tolerances.* Complete applicable maintenance forms and records.* Perform and supervise the installation of authorized modifications on supported equipment. Apply management principles in establishing maintenance priorities, allocating workloads, and substituting parts per regulations.* Assist the equipment records and repair parts technician in the following tasks related to vehicles and heavy equipment: Perform ASL/PLL duties in manual and automated supply applications. Request initial ASL/PLL from supply support activity (SSA) or develop and submit proposed ASL/PLL using applicable authorization documents. Review documentation and propose additions, deletions, or changes to established ASL/PLL.* Prepare requests for direct exchange of repair parts.* Prepare and maintain records on equipment usage, history, maintenance modification, and calibration.* Conduct risk assessments and risk mitigation. Ensure all safety and environmental requirements and considerations are implemented prior to the start of training or work.* Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Section Lead.* The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors.* Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel
