Under the Direction of the Arboretum Director, the Plant Sales Coordinator is actively involved with retail sales, works effectively with volunteer cashiers and plant specialists and coordinates plant sale activity with Arboretum Nursery staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Working knowledge of the Arboretum plant collections in general and specifically the plants propagated and grown for sales.
Meet the sales and financial goals for plant sales as established by the Board of the Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum
Ensure that the Arboretum mission and programs are reflected in the displays and merchandising of retail items.
Schedule and train volunteers as needed to support plant sales for weekday and weekend operating hours.
Monitor inventory levels of plants and garden merchandise.
Collaborate with Arboretum staff to ensure effective promotion for sales and special events including promotion and sales of Arboretum grown produce.
Participate in procuring garden related merchandise that promotes the Arboretum mission and compliments Nursery grown plants.
Working knowledge of the Arboretum plant collections in general and specifically the plants propagated and grown for sales.
Work with Nursery staff to establish competitive price points that ensure cost and margins are consistent with annual business plan.
Work with the Nursery staff to develop and refine the annual Nursery planting and propagation schedule to support plant sales events and on-going monthly sales goals.
Prepare weekly operational narrative report.  When supported by a POS system, run weekly sales reports.
Work with the budget as provided and assist in developing annual budget.
Maintain an attractive and welcoming sales area that reflects the Arboretum mission.
Work with Arboretum staff to cross promote all Arboretum activities
Assist with the selection and implementation of a new POS system.
Utilize effective selling techniques to build multiple sales and increase productivity.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 2 years retail sales experience, preferably in nursery and/or horticulture industry.
1-2 years experience with merchandising, visual display and retail sales promotion.
Experience with Point of Sale systems
Knowledge and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
Knowledge of and the ability to operate cash register.
In partnership with Arboretum staff and Friends Board, promote a sales environment to inspire others to achieve common goals.
Provide sincere, friendly and knowledgeable customer service to represent the Arboretum as an outstanding botanical garden for all to enjoy.
Demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse volunteer, membership and customer base.
Must be able to work under minimal supervision and take initiative.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma and/or equivalent, Associate or Bachelors degree preferred with an emphasis in Horticulture.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Corrective vision to normal visualization
Must be able to withstand long periods of bending, walking on uneven gravel, standing and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work outdoors, in a dusty environment prone to temperature variations and inclement weather.
