Description
Reporting to the Vice-President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of
Health Sciences and Child Development serves as the primary
administrator for programs in nursing, health sciences, early
childhood education and provides administrative oversight of the
Child Development Program.  The Dean of Health Sciences and
Child Development is responsible for overall management of
division programs and the Child Development Program, fostering
a collaborative environment to facilitate program and student
success.  Responsibilities include budget development and
management, curriculum development, faculty and staff
supervision and evaluation and serving as the nursing program
representative to regulatory organizations. The Dean is
responsible for supporting the college mission, implementing
college policies, and assuring compliance of all applicable
educational codes in addition to state and federal laws.
Requirements  Desirables
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Dean of Health Sciences and Child Development must meet
requirements to serve as the Director of the Registered Nursing
program.  These requirements include, but are not limited to
A Masters or higher degree from an accredited college or
university which includes course work in Nursing, Education, or
Administration and
Minimum of one years experience in an administrative position
with validated performance of administrative responsibilities,
including coordinating and directing all activities in
development, implementation, and management of a nursing
program, including fiscal management and
Minimum of two years experience teaching in pre- or post-
licensure nursing programs and
At least one years experience as a registered nurse providing
direct patient care as a registered nurse or the equivalent, to be
determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing and
Clear and active Registered Nursing license issued by the
California Board of Registered Nursing or eligibility to obtain
California licensure and
Experience and demonstrated skill in effective communication
with diverse groups and
Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the
diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic
backgrounds of community college students, college staff and
community members.
