Candidates with other engineering degrees and experience in precision machining techniques or characterization will also be considered. Responsibilities will include design, supervising fabrication and precision metrology.Responsibilities:This position functions as part of a team responsible for fabricating targets for the Inertial Fusion Energy Program. The group is primarily focused on the fabrication and characterization of complex targets in the several millimeters size range for use at the DOE National Laboratories. The activities of the group include fabrication of targets composed of polymer films, aerogels, metal coatings and precision diamond machined components. These components are precision assembled and characterized via microscopy, interferometry and gravimetric instrumentation. Duties include:* NC machine tool programming experience and knowledge of machine-tool controllers and associated electronics and machine-tool inspection techniques.* The command of PC computer and word processing software and Solid Works CAD drawing software plus an ability to sketch parts inAutoCADor equivalent.* Performing precision single point diamond machining and metrology (precise physical/optical measurements).* Supervising two or more technicians who perform conventional machining, coatings and diamond turning.* Developing new processes and technologies to improve existing methods.Qualifications:The following knowledge skills and attributes are required:* A minimum Bachelor''s Degree, Master''s preferred.* A minimum of 2 -10 years experience.* Strong analytical and experimental skills, excellent oral communication skills and an individual who works well in teams.* Experience supervising small groups would be a plus. * Attendance to professional conferences and considerable interaction with the customer.* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to give oral presentations.* U.S. Citizenship and qualification for a DOE security clearance required.Schafer Corporation offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits, tuition reimbursement and a professional working environment.Only those candidates invited to interview will be contacted.
