<tr><td valign="top" width="450"><b>#53022***Job Summary - The Coder 1 performs ICD and CPT coding and abstracts data from multiple computer systems, which comprise the legal medical record for facilities licensed under LLUMC and contracted other LLUAHSC facilities. Ensures the quality and accuracy of coding and abstracted information in compliance with federal and state regulations, government and contract payers, and grant funding. Quality of data collected impacts the facility in multiple ways, including finance, legal, research, teaching, quality assurance, etc. Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes in compliance with the American Hospital Association Official Coding Guidelines. Coder 1 must be able to perform coding in one area of Inpatient, Outpatient, or Emergency coding assigned and maintains stated performance and quality standards. Works with students and coding interns as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. ***Job Specifications - High school diploma required. Completion of Coding Certificate program or 2 year associate degree in Health Information Management required. Bachelors degree in Health Information Management preferred. Minimum one year experience in coding in an acute care facility or completion of coding certificate program from an accredited facility. CCS, RHIT or RHIA preferred. Ability to use computer, mouse and keyboard. Repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and arms. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Able to communicate in English by phone, with staff, demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, listening skills, work as a team player to achieve LLUMC and departmental goals, ability to have other cooperate or follow a specific course of action, relate positively, effectively, and professionally with others, be assertive and consistent in following guidelines, work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, lead, teach and collaborate, accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone, think critically, perform basic math function, manage multiple assignments effectively, organize and prioritize workload, work well under pressure, problem solve, recall information, pay close attention to detail, work independently with minimal supervision.
