As part of the intern experience, each student will be paired with a Boeing Subject Matter Expert (mentor) who will introduce them to the challenging and rewarding world of Manufacturing Automation as it applies in the Aerospace Industry. The intern will focus on three key elements of this unique discipline: Gaining insight into the operations of a world-class automated manufacturing environment; participating as a project team member working on a real-world automation engineering project; and contributing to the development of integration solutions and strategies that will produce cost-effective and timely project deployment. Although these are the focus points in the student internship at Boeing, a myriad of other industry-general and project-specific elements, processes and activities will be experienced. As participating members of the Project Engineering team, students will be given the opportunity to present their project solutions and integration recommendations to Boeing engineering management for evaluation and potential deployment. These summer internship opportunities are associated with a major aircraft final assembly facility in Long Beach, California.CompetenciesDEMONSTRATE: Design, Integration, Leadership, Communication, and Analytical Thinking skills in a team environment. Identify and evaluate project and process issues and then develop and execute appropriate solutions. GENERAL ENGINEERING SKILLS: Ability to apply essential engineering principles to the design, fabrication and integration of systems as they apply to facilities automated manufacturing projects. Good organizational and problem solving capabilities are essential. Candidates with experience in mechanical systems integration; CAD software applications and use of the PC as a design and development tool are pluses. DEPENDABILITY: Ensure that personal and team work activities are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Be on time at the facility according to assigned daily work schedule.
