Emphasis on the role components is dependent upon the patient population and the clinical and administrative functions/needs of the unit, department of nursing and ucla healthcare system. Clinical nurse specialist role includes: practitioner, educator, administrator/manager, consultant and researcher.  Job Qualifications: Required CNS state certificate master''s degree in nursing and california RN license. Preferred is a national certificate within area of speciality, NICU. Candidate should demonstrate a high degree of professional competence in a specialized field of nursing and utilizes advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge and a scientific approach to problem solving. Monitor complex and comprehensive plans of care; provide direct patient care; develope, monitor and evaluate clinical protocols, standards of care, p/p and other documents related to patient care; assess educational needs of staff, patient and family; develop and implement educational programs; interview, select and promote staff; supervise clinical performance of staff and contribute to evaluation; consult on a broad spectrum of professional nursing practice models, research utilization models, system change strategies and professional development; conduct and utilize research; apply principles of change theory and systems theory to implement innovative patient care practices system-wide; evaluate clinical and financial outcomes; mentor staff.In an effort to promote and maintain a healthy environment for our patients, visitors, and employees, UCLA Health System is a smoke-free site.
