As a paid staff member, you will support our loyal Red Cross disaster volunteers who serve selflessly to provide a bridge of assistance until individuals and families can resume a normal life.Our disaster volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission to respond to emergencies and provide relief to victims of disasters. They serve in a number of capacities, including Disaster Action Team Member, Disaster Assessment, Caseworker, Mass Care Feeding, Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) Driver, Shelter Manager/Staff, Disaster Health Services and Disaster Mental Health.Position SummaryThe Disaster Action Team (DAT) Specialist supports the DAT Program, serving alongside the Program Coordinator who is the operational and planning lead for Disaster Action Team responses for the Los Angeles Region. The Specialist ensures that the DAT services are delivered in a consistent manner throughout the Los Angeles Region service delivery area as outlined in regional and national standards. Duties will include providing support, mentorship, guidance and assessment to DAT responders and new volunteers. The Specialist will represent the Red Cross at various events throughout the geographical area of the region.Major ResponsibilitiesSupports personnel, logistics, service delivery and the guidelines of the Disaster Action Team Program.* Working with the Coordinator, provides support to DAT responders and associated Program subgroups. Works in conjunction with volunteers and employees, staffing, client casework, logistics and other Red Cross activities and programs.* Supports the dissemination of DAT procedures, training opportunities and response information.* Ensures consistent DAT service delivery throughout the region.* Responds to DAT incidents as necessary, and will be expected to be on-call and support after-hours incidents as needed.* Provides support and mentorship of the Client Assistance System and Client Casework guidelines to DAT responders.* Assists in the management of the Department&#39;s Emergency Operations activities when assigned.* Works with Logistics activity to coordinate, manage and maintain equipment and supplies assigned to the DAT program.Support volunteer development* Maintains precise records and meets defined goals in support of the DAT program.* Works to ensure quality volunteer recruitment, engagement, development and retention with employee and volunteer leadership.* Actively participates in engagement and retention efforts for existing volunteer personnel.Support Emergency and Disaster Response Operations* May be required to serve as a member of command staff and work in collaboration with other group leads during emergency and disaster operations.* May be required to staff position in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during exercises and actual large-scale events.* Participates and provides feedback regarding after action reports and recommendations following internal/external exercises and actual events.* Takes appropriate actions in areas of responsibility pursuant to after action reports and recommendations.Other Dimensions* As a contributor to the work of an emergency relief organization, extended work hours and/or assignments to a disaster operation with specific tasks will be required.* Membership in the national Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) system is required.* Availability to participate on at least one national disaster relief operation assignment per year.* Incumbent will be required to become a certified instructor of basic Disaster Services courses and to teach Disaster Services courses as necessary.The American Red Cross is a nonprofit orga
