This position requires an advanced level of expertise and overall understanding of breast oncology patients. In this role the NP III Supervisor also refers and coordinates patient care with other health care professionals as needed. The NP writes chemotherapy orders, evaluates protocols in collaboration with the physician, and evaluates patient intervention outcomes and monitors and adjusts patient medications and treatments according to patient responses. The NP III Supervisor also provides specialized knowledge and skill to assist staff with management of difficult and complicated patient/family problems, demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills in a culturally diverse environment, establishes and maintains cooperative and collaborative working relationships with administrative, clinical and academic personnel and provides for the comfort, safety and privacy of patients. Job Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; Nurse Practitioner Masters’ degree in nursing Certification with a specialty: Oncology Certified Nurse recommended.A minimum of 2 yrs experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Oncology strongly preferred. General knowledge of principles of management of Breast Oncology population required. The ability to teach about breast oncology and treatments and medical management issues and the ability to give presentations in areas of expertise.Ability to provide a leadership style that demonstrates the principles of time management, conflict resolution, problem-solving and delegation. Skill in prioritizing heavy workloads and deadlines, with ability to follow through. The ability to interface with medical staff and nursing staff.Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and their families, interdepartmental university departments and other affiliated institutions.Detailed knowledge of the University’s Human Subject Protection Committee’s preferred. Detailed knowledge of principles of research; experience in clinical trials. The ability to extemporaneously explain any facet of a study to nursing staff is required.The ability to make projections about future and current personnel and other costs. The ability to extemporaneously explain any facet of a study to nursing staff. Skill in using PC word processing and spreadsheet software, and knowledge of Medical Center computing systems. .
