The Occupational Safety  Health Representative II is a fully experienced position requiring the exercise of independent judgment in interpreting and applying occupational safety and health regulations of the state of California.  Positions assigned to this class apply technical knowledge of occupational safety and health concepts to field experiences on a routine basis.  The position is further distinguished from the lower level by its ability to work without immediate supervision.
The Occupational Safety  Health Representative II will assist in planning, coordinating and overseeing the service and maintenance of fixed and portable fire protection systems.  Assist in the oversight of and conduct training for Hazard Communication, Ergonomics, Emergency Action Plan, and Fire Prevention Plan.  Assist in coordinating and scheduling of various vendors to provide personal protective equipment and other HS-related services to the field sites.
This position reports to our Los Angeles Union Station facility. In addition, this position requires travelling to various Metropolitan Water District facilities covering Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties.  Position may occasionally require working off-site, different work schedules, and overnight stays.
Functions
Plans and conducts surveys of District facilities and work practices to identify and evaluate occupational environmental hazards.
Recommends solution to safety and health problems to eliminate or minimize identified occupational environmental hazards to ensure compliance with applicable State Occupational safety and health regulations.
Plans, conducts, and evaluates general and specialized training of District personnel with respect to safe working conditions, accident prevention, rescue operations, and fire prevention.
Collects and analyzes statistical data relating to on-the-job injuries and illnesses to establish priorities for occupational Safety and Health Section programs.
Conducts accident claims investigations involving District personnel and prepares detailed reports of such investigations.
Conducts research studies relating to occupational safety and health problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
Two 2 years experience as an Occupational Safety and Health Representative I
OR
A four year degree in occupational safety and /or occupational health from an accredited college or university plus one year of responsible experience in a structured occupational safety and health program, or a four-year degree with major emphasis in scientific disciplines such as chemistry, physics, biology, or engineering from an accredited college or university, plus two years of responsible experience in a structured occupational safety and health program. A masters degree in occupational safety or health can be substituted for one year of experience
OR
Six years of progressively responsible experience in a structured occupational safety and health program.
A valid California drivers license.
Physical Requirements  Class 4  Heavy
