<tr><td valign="top" width="450"><b>Req ID # 6416BRAdvertised Position Title Antenna Mechanical EngineerDivision Information SystemsWork Location CA, MonroviaJob Description POSITION SUMMARY:Will be responsible for supporting mechanical components on the DSN antennas including: hydraulic and electric drives, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, structural, surface finishes, failure analysis, trending of performance data and the oversight of predictive maintenance analysis -- including vibration Analysis, oil analysis, and thermal imaging systems and data. Assist with development of analysis and visualization tools for the health of 70m antenna hydrostatic bearings and traditional circulant and non-circulant roller bearings, including analyses of oil samples from operating devices. The candidate will be required to possess an understanding of large moveable structures with precision feedback systems and to be able to analyze and troubleshoot issues / problems that the personnel at the antennas are experiencing. Conduct all acceptance testing on hardware in the subsystems assigned. Some of this testing is performed at JPL (Pasadena, CA), while other testing is performed on the antennas at the tracking stations in Goldstone, California; Canberra, Australia and Madrid, Spain including possible required activities during nights and weekends.Advocate for the installed infrastructure on the behalf of the maintenance staffs and the antenna operators, for ease of use, reliability and maintainability. Participate in design reviews and facilitate the transfer of new hardware and software from development engineering to operations, including processing the shipment for delivery to the appropriate antenna location. Be responsible for negotiating adequate sparing of new deliveries and the oversight of adequate spares at each antenna location, including research, recommendation, and justification of new parts or equipment for obsolete or soon-to-be-obsolete parts or equipment and phase-out plans. Additional duties will be assigned, as required.It is anticipated that there will be twice a month travel to Goldstone for one day activities, 6 times a year overnight and one or two 1-4 week trips to each of the two overseas complexes each year.MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:Must be able to climb 100'' to 200'' structures via ladders and stairs.WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:Working environment/Physical ActivitiesRequired Experience: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Familiarity with instrumentation (proximity sensors, displacement transducers, pressure sensors) and automated instrument measurement systems (LabVIEW) is a plus. The candidate will be responsible for generation of web-based periodic reports on the health of the antenna oil-filled bearing systems.Clear communications and presentation skills are required. There will be frequent report generation and verbal presentations to ITT and JPL management. Demonstrated ability to use Excel and Powerpoint to generate clear, convincing presentations based on analysis of numerical information.The successful candidate must be able to work well in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
