The Platforms team designs and builds the software, hardware, computing platform and networking technologies that power all of Google''s services.The role: Mechanical Engineer, System ArchitectYou must be at the level of a senior technologies with strong analysis and design skills. You will be a lead technical resource in all areas of product design such as thermal, structural, manufacturability, serviceability and reliability. You must be well versed in the core mechanical engineering analytical skills in order to affect system level decisions and represent the team at cross-functional reviews. Your ability to productize designs is also critical and you should be able to independently design electro-mechanical packaging means for large-scale networked computer systems.Responsibilities:* Architect and influence the shaping of future products by providing mechanical engineering insight into the technology roadmap.* Identify and scope projects around innovation opportunities as well as technology risks.* Develop and execute designs for complex systems backed by thorough engineering analysis.* Deliver robust solutions for tasks such as blind mating of high density interconnects, inject/eject mechanisms and large server racks.* Take responsibility for product design, including requirements gathering, concepts generation and detailed design, analysis and verification testing, cross functional reviews and manufacturing release.Minimum Qualification:* BA/BS degree in a technical field (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).* 4 years experience in design and analysis of electronics packaging.Preferred Qualification:* 6 years relevant work experience.* Extensive experience in designing complex electro-mechanical assemblies with an expert understanding of mechanical tolerances and ability to perform detailed tolerance loop analysis.* Excellent facility with 3D CAD systems (Pro/Engineer experience a plus) and structural and thermal analysis techniques for small to large electronics packaging systems (FloTHERM and Ansys experience).* Ability to architect solutions backed by business case analysis.* Excellent working knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles with specific expertise in the areas of design for medium-scale production, sheet metal and injection molding, electrical interconnect systems, heat extraction and vibration control.* MS in Mechanical Engineering.
