The employee will serve as the on-site Senior
Mechanical Engineer for the Visible/Infrared
Imager/Radiometer Suite VIIRS instrument of the
Joint Polar Satellite System JPSS satellites.
Individual will support the JPSS VIIRS Instrument
Manager in overseeing the successful development
of the VIIRS instrument.
Location This position requires that the
candidate resides in/proximity to El Segundo, CA.
Relocation expenses are negotiable.
Requirements
Senior level Mechanical Engineer with at least 8
years experience in the development of NASA
satellite instrument payloads. Candidate needs to
have experience in providing mechanical
engineering support specifically supporting the
requirements documentation process, performing
trade studies, developing interface documentation,
reviewing project documentation, and
monitoring/assessing progress of technical
development. Individual will work with the
Government oversight engineering team and the
development contractor to ensure the instrument is
developed to meet cost, schedule, and performance
requirements. Individual will be responsible for
communicating with the JPSS Instrument Manager
IM, and Instrument Lead regarding VIRS program
health, risk, and development status. Knowledge in
aerospace industry standard design procedures and
processes is required.
Education  Experience
Masters degree preferred or undergraduate
engineering degree with equivalent experience
