Using principals of Mechanical Engineering such as controls, mechatronics, mechanics of materials, kinematics and fluid dynamics push the boundaries of biomedical engineering and medical device technology to develop products that alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.The Diabetes division of Medtronic is looking for creative and innovative minds with solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles to develop our next generations of drug delivery devices. Devices that are waterproof, have a modern 21th century look-and-feel, sophisticated sensor systems and precise delivery mechanism that are durable enough to withstand daily abuses hand held devices experience.Position ResponsibilitiesResearch, Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Technology Development of drug delivery devices.Technical competencies:Design parts to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining and extrusion.Select metallic and non-metallic materials through review of data sheets, specifications and testing.Grow and maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to product development of diabetes devices and accessoriesPlan and lead execution of design verification activitiesSustaining engineering of products in production.Work with suppliers to ensure components meet design requirements and robust processes are in place to manufacture them.Conduct FEAModel complex solids and surfaces using solid modeling software like SolidWorksEvaluate and analyze designs to determine design capabilities and margins against requirementsEvaluate and apply design trade-offs and constraints for design optimization.Apply statistical techniques and utilize DOE to optimize design and processesPrepare and present comprehensive design reviewsIndependently review and analyze new designs for DFM and DFA and provide feedback to design teamsInterpret national and international standards and translate them to design and product requirements.Collaborate with other functions such as Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design and Systems to determine design boundary conditions and requirementsIn collaboration with manufacturing develop automated tools and fixturesIndependently develop requirements, statements of work and theory of operations for tools, testers, and fixtures.Perform calculations and analyses to verify the designs.
