Provides a high degree of expertise in child passenger safety, including safe transport of children with special health care needs. Delivers child safety restraint education for patient families, including special needs populations, withinChildren''s Hospital & Research center Oakland. Delivers child passenger safety information to staff when requested. Provides consult to clinical staff including physicians, nurses and rehabilitation therapists regarding best safe transportation practices for patient families upon dscharge from the hospital environment. Provides regular consult to Children''s Hospital Primary Access Clinic. Assesses patients with special needs for proper vehicle safety restraint in collaboration with the Rehab team as a part of discharge planning; provodes parents/legal guardians of Children''s Hospital patients assistance, if requested by family or Health Care team at time of discharge, by demonstrating correct installation of child safety restraint; inspecting the installation after parents/legal guardians have installed the seat. Mannages the Hippo Car Seat Loaner Program. Under the direction of the Injury Prevention Coordinator. Reports to the Injury Prevention Coordinator on all program activities.Position Requirements:Education:High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Bachelor''s degree in health education, community health or related field, preferred.Experience:Two years experience working with a health-related program, preferred.Previous child passenger safety experience, especially related to children with special health care needs, preferred. Previous knowledge and experience in professional and public education and teaching, preferred.License/Certification Required:Valid California Driver''s License, Child Passenger Safety TechnicianKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of groups, professionals, agencies, parents and children. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work. Possesses effective communication skills for working with diverse families and with other health care members. Experience and passion for child passenger safety is essential. Technologically competent and computer literate. Budget and grant writing experience preferred. Must attend Special Needs Training within 1 year of hire date.
