Work includes conducting technical requirements analysis based on the customer''s business architecture, developing technical architectures and generating high and low level designs for implementation in customer environments. In addition, the role requires development of replicable solutions based upon pressing customer business needs which can then be sold across a large segment of the market. While some of the communications aspects of the work remain the same as those typically seen on regular large scale network deployments, the engineer would need to develop a thorough understanding of the business drivers in a utility, it''s workflow, the unique protocols that run within this environment, regulatory constraints that drive decisions and the scale and rigor deployments generally demand. Success would essentially mean learning the utilities "language" and translating one''s existing skill set into it.Candidate must have deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: Core IP Network Design, Data Center Networking, Wireless, Security, Network Management. A consulting background is a plus as is having worked in the utilities industry in the past. However, neither is a must.Initiates and consults on original creative efforts that are vital to the success of the organization. Provides new technology training for AS engineers and/or customers on an ongoing basis. Represent Cisco for industry panel discussion and present training for customers at technical conferences. Influence technology directions and decisions with Cisco business units. Work closely with other Cisco business units in bringing new technology information to the AS group and customers. Influence the technology directions of the AS group and customers. Produce technical white papers in design and troubleshooting in specific areas of expertise for use by Cisco engineers, sales teams and customers. Provide documented design review plans and migration plans to AS engineers and customers when involved with design projects. Responsible for building and leading technology virtual teams in AS to help AS engineers become experts in the design and troubleshooting of the specific technologies.Typically requires MS or BS with 9+ years experience in a network engineering or telecommunications support environment.ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to influence the technology decisions of Cisco''s largest Service Providers and Enterprise Customers. Ability to work with and influence the top network engineers and network architects of Cisco''s largest Service Providers and Enterprise Customers. Influences product development for key Engineering groups within Cisco. Provides input to the technical directions of the AS organization to AS management. Excellent time management and prioritization required. Design level expertise in one or more of :IP Inter networking, IBM inter networking, Switching, ATM, WAN Expertise, Network Management, Voice Technologies, Security, Multimedia. Inter-networking Troubleshooting Experience. Technical Account Management Skills. Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert. Network Design Experience, large scale network design. Development of network design documents technology white papers. Provide training to AS organization, product positioning in design discussions. Test, verify and assess new technologies for AS deployments. Provide technology training to Cisco customers at Technical conferences.The employee can sit anywhere in the US near major airport. This position will require 50% travel.
