The candidate should have a good understanding and working knowledge of Caltrans design guidelines such as the HDM, MUTCD, Caltrans Standard Plans and Standard Specifications in addition to local agencies standards, AASHTO, and APWA. Strong Microstation/AutoCAD and InRoads capabilities, as well as a strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools, particularly spreadsheet skills, are required.The candidate must have good verbal and written communication skills.Job Description: The Transportation Design Engineer will prepare preliminary and final design documents for transportation infrastructure projects. Specific activities will include the preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for highway, roadway, and other public works improvement projects. The Transportation Design Engineer will prepare geometric layouts, profiles, cross sections, grading designs, retaining wall layouts, drainage calculations and plans, and coordinate with utility agencies. Planning and preliminary engineering assignments will include assisting with development and preparation of various transportation planning studies such as Caltrans Project Study Reports, Project Reports and conceptual engineering studies. Excellent written communication skills will be necessary to author quality reports. The Transportation Design Engineer will also be responsible for implementation of quality control reviews and procedures of elements of work under their supervision.URS does not accept unsolicited resumes from third party agencies or recruiters.
