Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.GENERAL DESCRIPTION/REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:Performs some scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Evaluates completed pre/post- inspection forms for repairs and prioritizes mechanical activities. May move vehicles up to approximately 800 yards from assigned parking area to shop for repairs. Follows lockout, tagout and blockout procedures for mobile equipment. Occasionally unlatches and pulls the hood back to access the engine. Evaluates vehicle problems and completes requested repair or maintenance activity. Checks for other problems and repairs them if possible. Documents repairs on pre/post inspection form, then signs off as serviceable. Changes oil. Inspects and repairs brakes. Inspects tires and wheels. Maintains fluid levels. Adjusts clutches. Adjusts valves. Removes and replaces parts and hydraulic pumps. Repairs electrical equipment on the vehicles. Removes and replaces batteries. Repairs oil, air, water, and electrical lines and changes hoses. Welds as necessary to repair or fabricate parts, using arc or wire feed welder. . Maintains an inventory of parts that are frequently needed so that replacements can be made quickly. Meets with vendors. May perform the following non-essential functions: Orders parts that need to be replaced. Uses common mechanical hand tools, one-inch air gun, standard and portable arc welder, wire feed welder, cutoff saw, torches, grinder, automated air jacks, forklift, crane and service truck to perform above functions.Required SkillsEducation Requirement:Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate desired.Experience Requirement:Mechanical and diagnostic experience on diesel and gas engines plus knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems. Education/Experience Equivalency:Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.Licensure and/or Certification:May be required to have a commercial license and necessary endorsements to operate equipment on a public thoroughfare.
