Position Description
Space Systems/Loral is currently seeking an RF Communication Systems Engineer with a responsibility for simulating and characterizing end-to-end satellite communications links and subsystems. He/she will
* Develop and validate a MATLAB-based simulation of expected physical layer communications link performance
* Architect test systems and environments that faithfully represent a satellite transponder
* Characterize satellite transponder nonlinearities and their effects on various modulated waveforms
* Perform availability and throughput/capacity analysis in MATLAB
* Develop system requirements and system specifications
* Perform requirements analysis and system trade studies and analysis
* Allocate system requirements to units for procurement
* Perform gain/loss, air link and inter-modulation analysis
* Develop detailed test plans and procedures
Position Requirements
The position requires a MS or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field of study with a minimum 10 years of relevant work experience with MS degree and 8 years with Ph.D. Must understand modulation techniques, coding techniques, and the effects of nonlinearity and phase noise on modulated carrier performance. Should be proficient in MATLAB and have expertise in communications link budgets. Knowledge of DVB-S2 standard highly desired. Should be able to achieve objectives given top level requirements with limited supervision. Must be a US citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee. Security clearance highly desired.
