The EMS Division supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation.This position is responsible for determining and developing effective approaches for resolving a wide range of difficult engineering problems.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated resultsWork is reviewed at milestones or at completion for adequacy in meeting objectivesDocuments findings, communicates results to engineering staff and makes technical presentations as requiredMay coordinate segments of a specific project and may have frequent inter-organization and customer contact on difficult technical issuesProvides direction to design or technical staff and may provide direction to less experienced professional staffPackages design for electromechanical equipmentDesigns rotating machinery test standsDesigns mounting structuresPerforms cooling system designPerforms CAD layoutSupervises detail drafting activitiesOther duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or two or more years of experience with a Master’s degreeMechanical Engineering degree is highly recommendedMay substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of educationWorking knowledge of applied mechanics is requiredWorking knowledge of heat transfer is requiredBasic fluid and piping system knowledge is requiredMust have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a teamAble to work extended hours as required.May be required to obtain and maintain a US Security clearanceDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Structural engineering is a plusFamiliarity with structural and thermal FEA is desiredMilitary systems experience is desiredEquipment packaging experience is a plusKnowledge of safety and structural codes is desiredProfessional Engineering License and Management Training are also beneficialGeneral Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world
