The EMS Division supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation. This position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of routine engineering problems of limited scope. Assignments are for small projects or phase(s) of larger project(s) and are normally outlined in terms of specific engineering activities.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for mechanical analysis, design, drawings, writing technical documents, test procedures and records for mechanical/electrical assemblies within the component engineering group (projects include: Electromagnetic Aircraft Launching and Arresting Systems (EMALS and AAG), Railgun, and commercial applications)Performs assignments to include the design of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical systems to include assemblies, structural members, cables, etcDocuments findings and implemented solutions, and communicates results to project engineering staffObtains and compiles test data related to modeling and analysisPerforms other duties as assigned or requiredMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering or related disciplineMay substitute equivalent experience in lieu of educationMust have a basic understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theoryDemonstrates the ability to follow and apply basic engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory complianceMust possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environmentGood communication, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other professionals, the production of appropriate documentation, and the presentation of results to a limited internal audienceMust be proficient with MS Office operating systemAbility to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive informationAbility to work independently or in a team environment is essentialAbility to work extended hours and travel as requiredMay be required to obtain and maintain a US Security clearanceDESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Mechanical Engineering or related degree preferredKnowledge of PTC products (Intralink, Pro/Engineer, Windchill) is a plusExperience in Power Electronics/heat transfer or related is a plusMilitary experience would be helpfulGeneral Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world
