JOB SUMMARY:

<tr><td valign="top" width="450"><b>The CG Specialist may be responsible for ensuring
timely receipt of contract and grant documents,
continuations to ensure timely payments from the
State and Local governments. The CG Specialist
may also be required to assist Campus Leadership
in increasing indirect cost returns on private
non-profit, state, city and county awards.
Incumbent will provide monthly reports on
progress, and solicit assistance and advice from
the CG Manager and Director of Contracts and
Grants as necessary to provide for measurable and
timely progress toward goals. In addition, the
incumbent will coordinate with department
managers, Research Management Services and the
Controllers Office to address post-award issues
with an emphasis on improving transparency and
customer service. The incumbent will also perform
other duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBA/BS with
sufficient relevant years of experience in
research administration and/or a combination of
education and experience that demonstrates the
necessary level of analytical, problem-solving,
initiative, judgment, decision-making,
organizational and communications skills.
Demonstrated experience negotiating
contracts.
Experience with the research process and
understanding of research methodology.
Previous administrative experience working
with grants and contracts required.
Demonstrated understanding of the mission
of a major research and teaching university with
a medical enterprise and its ancillary public
service and patient care missions. Demonstrated
experience in research funding environment and
structure.
Demonstrated knowledge of policy
distinctions between gift, grant and contract
mechanisms for industrial support of UCSF programs
and the ability to interpret the varying
objectives and needs of investigators and sponsors
in order to advise on the appropriate mechanism
for this support. Must be able to comprehend and
interpret complex language related to federal,
non-profit and University regulations.
General knowledge of University policies
relating to academic personnel, the appropriate
use of University facilities, sales and service
activities, research regulatory compliance
requirement, stewardship responsibilities, use of
animal and human subjects, intellectual property,
appropriate overhead rates, publication rights,
etc.
Ability to demonstrate requisite knowledge
of contracts and agreements to be assigned
signature authority on behalf of UC Regents
criteria includes ability to apply contract law
and legal terms to a variety of contract types,
timely negotiation of agreements, development of
effective working relationships with a variety of
stakeholders, and demonstrated ability to protect
the Universitys interests.
