The Medical Center also provides professional education and basic biomedical, clinical and behavioral research. Today, with its 1,254 licensed acute care beds and 25 residential beds, California Pacific Medical Center is one of the largest private, non-profit academic medical centers in California.Responsible for the coding of medical diagnoses, surgical procedures and abstracting clinical data/information from medical records. Codes are used to calculate DRG and APC assignments required for reimbursement and used to establish a statistical database. Ensures patient''s collected discharged data are accurate and complete in compliance as mandated by state, federal regulations, and hospital defined coding policies and procedures. Ensures that all inpatient, same day surgery, skilled nursing, physical rehabilitation, observation, MSDC/OIS, and emergency room records are coded, abstracted, finalized, charged in/out appropriately, and monitored timely and accurately.* Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) credential, a Certified Coding Specialist or Coder, and current registration with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) required.* Demonstrated knowledge of hospital inpatient, SNF/PR and outpatient ICD-9-CM, CPT, and Modifier coding rules.* Knowledge of APC and DRG assignment logic, National Correct Initiative edits, Coding Clinic and CPT Assistant coding guidelines and the contents of a medical record required.* Knowledge of compliance guidelines is essential.* Background knowledge of analysis, assembly, terminal digit filing, and physician''s incomplete processing preferred.* Familiarity with billing functions and the components of a charge description master preferred.* Minimum 2 years experience in hospital-based inpatient and outpatient coding experience in an acute care facility of similar size and complexity.* Ability to bend and reach to pull medical records.* Ability to carry stacks of medical records measuring not more than 1 foot high and weighing between 10-15 pounds.* Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer terminal.
