ATS is an internal service organization that
provides high quality technical services and
expertise on an as-needed basis to all business
lines at Pacific Gas Electric Company
PGE, including the Diablo Canyon Power Plant
DCPP. Based at PGE?s San Ramon Technology
Center, ATS is a multi-disciplinary team of
approximately 120 engineers and technical
personnel who perform work in the ATS San Ramon
offices and laboratories, and
in the field.
The Civil / Mechanical Engineering Services CMES
Unit provides engineering, testing, analysis and
related technical services for PGE facilities and
structures. Services performed for PGE?s nuclear
power plants are performed in
accordance with federally mandated nuclear quality
assurance program requirements.Position
SummaryThis position as Senior Mechanical Engineer
is primarily focused on field testing of power
generation systems and components for all PGE
Assets,
including but not limited to All Types of
Machinery, Substation Equipment, Relays, Motors,
Buildings, Dams, Water Systems, Gas Compressors
and Lines, Transmission and Distribution
Equipment, etc. Much of the testing will be out in
the field requiring overnight
travel. Office/Lab work includes data analysis,
data reporting, planning for emergent or ongoing
work, procedure development and maintenance.
Environment and Working Conditions
? Mix of independent work environment and small
team environment
i.e., 2-7 members with team leader
responsibilities
? Office and field environment that requires
walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, infrequent
climbing and possible exposure to adverse weather
and noise
? Overnight travel up to 50%
? Overtime,
weekends and holidays, as
neededQualificationsMinimum
? Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering
? 6 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
with 3 years of industrial experience involving
testing and instrumentation ? California
Mechanical P.E. license will consider out of
state equivalent license with the ability to
obtain California license
? Valid state driver?s license and clean driving
record
Desired
? Power Generation experience
? Experience
with hydraulic governors and control systems
testing and evaluation
? FEA modeling, rotor dynamics, and hydraulic
modeling.
? Experience with test instrumentation application
and usage
? Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
? Good
independent judgment and effective communication
skills
? Ability to interface effectively with clients
and changing team members
? Understanding of safety and quality
focusResponsibilities? Hydro Condition Assessment
Program lead provide
Engineering oversight to evaluate the ability for
each hydro-electric power facility to safely
shutdown and measure the relative change in
efficiency of hydro-electric power facilities
after major upgrades. Requires on-site
testing/monitoring, and reporting of
vibration, pressure, temperature, motion, power,
current and flow. Responsible for evaluating data
and preparing reports that provide recommendations
for client corrective action plans.
? Mechanical Testing Analysis Perform product
and component testing
including material strength and durability
testing.
