This position will provide medical expertise to assure the safe care of laboring patients and the immediate care of the newborns at each of our hospitals. The measurable goals include achieving excellence in national metrics such as Early Elective Deliveries (EED), compliance with evidence based practices, completion of competencies, reduction in number of claims and achievement of other metrics required by The Joint Commission and/or Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). This position will collaborate with others in the system office such as the Perinatal Safety Managers, Director Medical Safety, Infection, Patient Experience, Quality, Information Technology and Transformational Care. This position will also work closely with local facility leadership, primarily the Perinatal Director, Obstetricians, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President Medical Affairs. And finally, the Medical Director supports the five core values of Dignity Health (Dignity, Excellence, Collaboration, Stewardship and Justice) in the course of their work, responsibilities and interactions.Position ScopeAlthough Dignity Health has 36 hospitals, there are 31 hospitals with maternal child health services in California, Arizona and Nevada. The System Office in San Francisco provides services in the areas of strategic planning, information systems, centralized self insurance programs, patient safety, financing, tax reporting, human resources, legal, financial and statistical reporting, care management, productivity improvement, advocacy, communications, managed care, and mission effectiveness. This position reports provides system level support to hospitals for achieving excellence in their maternal child health services and reports up through the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. Ideally, the position is physically housed in the San Francisco Office; however, other locations will be considered as the candidate must be able to readily travel to hospitals with short notice (having access to an immediate airport is required).Principal Responsibilities
