RDO oversees complex campus-wide or
multidisciplinary research funding opportunities
and directs the preparation of complex research
proposals. The RDO provides services to faculty at
UCSF, San Francisco General Hospital, and the
Veterans Administration that include the
identification of funding resources, outreach to
federal and not-for-profit funding agencies
regarding future opportunities and management of a
professional team responsible for the preparation
of large interdisciplinary proposals or complex
funding opportunities research team building
identification of funding opportunities and
targeted dissemination and outreach and training
activities designed to support extramural research
funding opportunities.
The Research Development Specialist will assist
the Director of the Research Development Office in
the preparation of complex campus-wide or
multidisciplinary research funding proposals. The
RD Specialist will be responsible for consulting
with investigators at all stages of the proposal
development process institutional coordination
communicating with sponsors as appropriate inter-
institutional partnering and proposal project
management. The incumbent also will perform other
duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBA/BS with a major
in a related field and six years of experience in
administrative analysis or operations research or
an equivalent combination of education and
experience
Prior professional writing experience
Strong portfolio of technical writing and
editing for both a scientific and lay audience
Broad scientific knowledge
Demonstrated understanding of the mission
of a major research and teaching university with
a medical enterprise and its ancillary public
service and patient care missions
Demonstrated experience in research
funding environment and structure
Skill in analyzing information and
objectives to define problems, identify relevant
issues or concerns, formulating alternatives to
affect resolution, and selecting alternative
problem resolutions having evaluated all
implications for implementation of a given
solution
Well organized with the ability to set
priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to use a variety of database
applications, word processing and Microsoft Office
software
Ability to provide high quality customer
service and maintain professional communication
with faculty, campus administrators and industry
sponsor representatives by providing regular
status updates

KEY REQUIREMENTS:
