The candidate is expected to be proficient in advanced statistical methods, machine-learning, and data-mining techniques.The Advanced Analytics team is a team that is chartered with driving revenue and profit growth in Gap''s online business through the development and implementation of algorithms based upon various analytical techniques. Examples of some of the key projects are: optimal price recommendation, customer lifetime value analysis, website performance analysis etcThis position of CRM Sr. Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics interacts with a variety of team members across the Gap Inc Direct business, including Operations, Strategy and Consumer Insights.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Customer profiling and segmentation: evaluate customer segment characteristics across multiple dimensions, producing customer demographic, psychographic, financial, and behavioral profiles to drive marketing strategies and tactics.Models and Algorithms: Analyze customer data across multiple dimensions to inform the marketing campaign and test strategy. Utilize this data to build various models at enhancing the effectiveness of marketing activities. These models will be based upon statistical algorithms (such as multivariate and logistic regressions, CART, CHAID, etc.), machine learning techniques (such as support vector machines, clustering, neural networks, decision trees etc), and graph analysis methods (such as social network analysis etc). Provide actionable recommendations based on insights, and report on these insights to business and technical partners.Test design and evaluation: Fully understand the business objectives and translate into a robust set of experimental tests. These tests should support multiple objectives including monetization opportunities, customer engagement and experience across multiple channels.Business interaction: Actively engage with the business partners to fully understand the business requirements and translate into appropriate models.* 3-5 years experience in algorithm development, preferably for monetization or customer engagement* Expert knowledge of statistical software (such SAS or R) and machine learning packages (Mahout, Weka, svm libraries)* Experience designing and validating models based upon logistic regression, decision trees, non-linear regressions, or support vectorm machine methodology* Broad experience in building direct marketing models and accessing data in a relational database environment; Oracle experience preferred* Background in web-analytics using Hadoop and MapReduce paradigms is highly desirable* MS/PhD, preferably within statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science or a related field* Prior experience applying machine learning techniques (SVM, regression trees, random forests etc) on large datasets is a big plus
