<tr><td valign="top" width="450"><b>Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Mechanical Engineer.   The Senior Mechanical Engineers primary responsibility will be to design, develop and test mechanical designs of infrared IR test equipment.  The engineer will be involved with product design from conception to integration and will need to collaborate with other engineering disciplines to design electro-mechanical mechanisms and perform FEA activities.  The engineer will lead and provide mentorship to other engineers within the group.  They will develop estimates and schedules for projects and executes tasks according to schedule and budget.  The engineer will create new designs and perform related design modifications, malfunction and failure investigation and evaluations, technical report preparation and similar ancillary duties.

Responsibilities
Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
Uses appropriate discretion and judgment to design products or systems such as instruments, controls, machines, which can involve mechanical, pneumatic, thermal, hydraulic, heat transfer, electronic and software systems.
Participates in design reviews including peer review, system level review, manufacture review and customer review.
Creates 3D models and generates fabrication and assembly documentation used to manufacture systems and products.  Revises existing documentation according to the ECO process.  Solidworks experience is desired.
Coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
Responsible for developing cost and hour estimates for mechanical design projects.
Responsible for executing tasks within schedule and budget.
Lead and mentor junior mechanical engineers
Requirements/Experience
Bachelors degree B. A/Sc from four-year college or university and five to ten years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to work full time
Experience with SolidWorks including 3D modeling, 2D drawing generation, FEA
Technical experience in optical systems or vacuum Dewar design a plus
Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
Creative, critical thinker.  Must be able to anticipate problems, and propose solutions in a timely manner
Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills

Occasional travel required
