The company employs approximately 91,000 people and markets its products in more than 130 countries.Job Description PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:The role of the Senior Communications specialist is to plan, develop and implement internal and external PR strategies that support corporate reputation and division marketing communication objectives. This person will be called upon to help develop and execute various components of PR campaigns and should be well versed in the use of various media relations tools to support the programs. The senior public affairs specialist assists with key message development, media pitching, media monitoring, development of PR plans and research. The Senior Communications Specialist also produces various written materials including press releases, fact sheets, and talking points and may support PR agency management.CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Develops/produces key communications vehicles /materials including press releases, fact sheets, web strategy. Can manage logistics and media relations on publicity events. Develops story-lines and pitches to media, coordinates spokespeople for proactive media interviews, prepares relations. Builds ongoing relationships with local, trade and national media. Develops Abbott/product story-lines and pitches stories to media. Serves as spokesperson on behalf of the company to a variety of media. Conducts media monitoring and develops results reporting. May also assist with the development of internal communications materials, including intranet stories, executive speeches/presentations. Demonstrated expertise in writing and editing, ability to critically evaluate copy documents for communications materials Create original material, edit, or rewrite where appropriate.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY / SCOPE:The senior public affairs specialist reports to a public affairs manager or director. This position may be responsible for managing budgets and/or public relations agencies on projects. The senior public affairs specialist must have the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
