Biomolecular Engineering
Immunochemistry/Hybridoma Research Specialist
Applications are invited for an Academic Research Specialist
position within the Department of Biomolecular Engineering
focused on strategies for the prevention and treatment of
serious life threatening diseases including HIV-1 infection and
cancer. Under the direction of the principal investigator, the
selected candidate will be responsible for the production and
immunologic characterization of polyclonal and monoclonal
antibodies, and the analysis of antibody responses to novel
proteins produced by recombinant DNA technology. This
position requires broad laboratory experience in mammalian cell
culture, cancer biology, virology, protein chemistry, and cell
biology. Previous experience in virus neutralization assays,
molecular biology, or protein purification is desirable.
RANK Associate Specialist
SALARY $49,824-$59,976, commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT Initial appointment is for 6 months with
the possibility of extension. Should the hiring unit propose
reappointment, a review to assess performance will be
conducted. In addition, reappointment is contingent upon
availability of appropriate funding.
Minimum Qualifications  A PhD plus two years of postdoctoral
training in a relevant area, or a Bachelors degree plus five years
of relevant post baccalaureate lab experience, is required.  A
high level of hands-on laboratory expertise in the following
techniques are required  production of recombinant proteins by
transient transfection of mammalian cells, purification of
recombinant glycoproteins by affinity chromatography,
monoclonal antibody production, epitope mapping, receptor
binding assays, immunoprecipitation assays, flow cytometry, and
binding assays using surface plasmon resonance. Additional
expertise in the detection of protein expression by gel
electrophoresis, immunoblotting, enzyme-linked
immunosorbent assay ELISA, and the preparation of enzyme
and fluorescent antibody conjugates are also required. Excellent
communication and organizational skills are required, including
experience writing scientific reports using standard software
including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.  Experience using
bibliographic software, DNA sequence analysis software, and
statistical software are also required. A demonstrated record of
research accomplishment in cancer biology or HIV biology, as
indicated by authorship/co-authorship of scientific papers
published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, is required.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is
required.
